We squeezed our brains to come up with an idea that we were happy with both functionally and esthetically. Apart from looking good, the holder must be easy clean, long lasting and with a simple system that enables us to change the menu pages frequently so they always look fresh.
We spent months discarding lousy ideas until we found the right one and when we finally did, we still had to see how to produce it. We then went from shop to shop asking for what seemed impossible and after being met with nothing but confused Balinese faces and even considering to make it ourselves, all our problems were miraculously solved when we walked into this shop, recommended by another of our suppliers. Despite having literally hundreds of menus on display, it was great to see nobody had thought of our idea (this made us smile… it is so damn hard to be original nowadays!) but they still were willing to help us by producing something from scratch.
We now know where to have our menus made and only need to understand the sizes of paper available in Bali (yes, this is not “paperland”) to finalize the measurements of our holders. Can’t wait to see them finished and more so you holding them!

Esta semana teníamos entre otras la misión de encontrar finalmente nuestros portamenús. Este es uno de los objetos que hemos tardado más tiempo en diseñar porque queríamos algo diferente de la típica cubierta de piel.
Nos exprimimos el cerebro para pensar en algo que nos gustara tanto funcional como estéticamente. Aparte de ser algo bonito, tiene que ser fácil de limpiar, duradero y con un sistema que nos permita cambiar el menú frecuentemente para que siempre parezca fresco.
Nos hemos pasado meses descartando malas ideas en busca de una realmente buena y cuando finalmente se nos ocurrió, aún teníamos que idear la manera de ponerla en práctica. Empezamos entonces un ir y venir de tienda en tienda preguntando por lo que parecía imposible y tras encontrarnos docenas de caras balinesas confusas e incluso considerar manufacturarlo nosotros mismos, todos nuestros problemas se solucionaron milagrosamente cuando entramos en esta tienda, recomendada por otro de nuestros proveedores. Aunque todas las estanterías estaban repletas de opciones, fue genial ver que a nadie se le había ocurrido lo mismo que a nosotros (esto nos hizo sonreír, ¡es tan difícil ser original hoy en día!). Pese a ser algo diferente, en la tienda se ofrecieron a ayudarnos a producir nuestro portamenús desde cero.
Ahora sabemos dónde manufacturarlos y el siguiente paso es averiguar los tamaños de papel disponibles en Bali (aquí lamentablemente no hay mucha variedad) para concretar las medidas de nuestros menús. ¡Qué ganas de verlos acabados y sobre todo de veros con ellos en la mano!
