It is amazing to think that only 15 years ago we all lived without
Internet… We have been 10 days without
it and we are absolutely lost not being able to connect from home: we can’t check in
Google the list of wine producers in Bali, the phone number of the pizza
delivery, where to buy a printer, etc. It was evident that Internet was a
priority in our “to do” list.
After many enquiries to everyone we know, calls
and frustrating conversations trying to explain where we live (in the middle of
nowhere), mysterious surveys and unfruitful visits… we hoped we would get
Internet today. Early in the morning the Internet guys arrived. After seeing their
promising skills we nicknamed them ‘Batman and Robin´. Look at the photos and
you would understand why! After hours climbing to all climbable areas in our
house… we received a phone call from their company saying they have to
re-schedule the installation for next week because some trees are blocking the
signal every time there is a gust of wind… We first asked politely to continue trying, we explained then our
desperate situation, then we started to cry and shortly after we went into
begging… After a few shameful minutes, they told us they would try again. We
finally got Internet, now let’s hope for the wind to blow on the right
direction…

pensar que hace solo 15 años todos vivíamos sin Internet… Nosotros hemos estado
10 días sin él y estamos completamente perdidos sin conexión en casa: no
podemos buscar en Google la lista de productores de vino en Bali, ni el número
de teléfono para pedir pizzas a domicilio, ni dónde podemos comprar una
impresora, etc. Era evidente que Internet era una prioridad en nuestra lista
que cosas que hacer.
Después de preguntarle a todo el mundo que conocemos, de
llamadas y conversaciones frustrantes tratando de explicar dónde vivimos (en
medio de la nada), misteriosos sondeos y visitas infructuosas… esperábamos conseguir
Internet hoy. Esta mañana temprano llegaron los técnicos y tras ver su
prometedora habilidad decidimos apodarlos ‘Batman y Robin’… ¡Mirad las fotos y sabréis
por qué! Después de horas trepando a
todo lo que se puede trepar en casa, recibimos una llamada de la compañía de
internet diciendo que tenían que organizar otra visita la próxima semana para
la instalación porque los árboles bloqueaban la señal… Primero les pedimos
educadamente que lo intentaran otra vez, después les explicamos
desesperadamente nuestra situación, al rato empezamos a llorarles y a
intentarlo rogándoles… Al cabo de unos minutos vergonzosos, accedieron a
intentarlo otra vez. Finalmente tenemos internet, pero ahora a confiar en que
el viento sople en la dirección correcta…
